PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Two months after a pizza delivery driver was shot on the job, his mother is speaking out. She needs your help finding the man who pulled the trigger.
A bullet hit him in the arm, passed through his side, punctured his lung and went out by his spine.
"I just want the man caught," said the victim's mother, who didn't want to be identified.
It was early Labor Day morning on Sept. 3 when her 21-year-old son was working the overnight shift delivering pizzas for Chanello's in Portsmouth. She says her son went to deliver a pizza to home on Piedmont Avenue.
"It wasn't the way the holiday was suppose to start," she added. "He remembers getting back into his car. He remembers two vehicles pulling up. A guy got out of one of the vehicles. Then a gun was pointed at his head."
After swatting the gun away, the delivery driver hit the gas. He was so panicked he ran right into a street sign.
"After he hit the sign, the guy got back into his vehicle and started shooting out the window," said the victim's mother. "My son ducked down. When he sat back up it was when he saw the blood going down his arm. He knew he'd been shot."
The bullet went into his arm and then through a lung. Two months and several surgeries later the recovery process continues.
"[The suspect] didn't get money, he didn't get pizza and if he had known my son he didn't even need a gun," she added. "My son would have just given it to him."
What bothers this mom even more is knowing that the person responsible is still walking free.
"The idea that this guy is still out there, how daring is he willing to get?" she asked. "Who's going to be next?"
