PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Tidewater Community College's Portsmouth campus was put on lockdown Saturday morning after a man barricaded himself inside a bathroom at a nearby flea market.
The incident began when Portsmouth police attempted to arrest Ladarrious Antwan Jenkins, 34, who had outstanding warrants, around 8:43 a.m, according to police.
TCC was put on lockdown as a precaution and the ramp from Interstate 264 to Victory Boulevard was closed to traffic. TCC issued an alert to students that said, "Portsmouth Campus is closed due to police activity in the vicinity. Stay away until further notice."
After a five hour stand-off Jenkins was taken into custody.
TCC canceled classes for the rest of the day and said normal operations will resume on Monday.
No injuries were reported.
