PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - The assault charges filed between a Portsmouth councilman and a woman claiming to be the mother of his child have been dropped.
WAVY.com reported last month Councilman Bill Moody was accused of having an extramarital affair and fathering a child with the woman. Portsmouth Mayor Kenny Wright called for Moody's resignation because Moody and the woman involved filed assault and battery charges against each other, elevating the situation from a personnel matter to the public eye.
According to court records, a protective order against Moody was withdrawn as were assault and battery charges. The same charges were dismissed against the woman.
Moody has served as a Portsmouth City Council member since 1998.
Wright told 10 On Your Side last month the woman involved sent him pictures of who appears to be Moody in a delivery room cuddled up with an infant the woman says is Moody's child. Moody has requesting a paternity test.
