PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - In the midst of a strong winds and storms throughout the East Coast Tuesday, the Coast Guard searched for two missing fishermen off the coast of the Eastern Shore.
According to a news release from the Coast Guard, one person has been rescued and two more are missing from a distressed fishing vessel off the coast of Assateague Island.
Crews initially received calls about the distressed 67-foot fishing vessel just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The distressed ship's sister ship came to rescue but was lost in tow due to weather conditions.
Winds speeds reached 40 mph at the time.
A helicopter crew and motor life boat crew have been deployed to the area to search for the two missing individuals.
The Coast Guard temporarily suspended the search Wednesday due to low visibility and high winds. The search will continue Thursday morning.
