PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Eighteen small breed dogs were sent from Pasadena to Portsmouth this week, and a line outside of the Portsmouth Humane Society was telling of how well the adoptions went.
A Pasadena shelter contacted the Portsmouth Humane Society about an overwhelming amount of small dogs at their shelter.
"Saying they were inundated with chihuahuas and small breed designer dogs and would they be interested in doing transfers," Christie Chipps-Peters with the Portsmouth Humane Society said. "It's similar to the pit bull problem we have here in Virginia, they don't have that problem in California. Their problem is small dogs and a shelter like ours, we can adopt little dogs like hot cakes".
The shelter took in 18 dogs and gave each dog a Hollywood star's name during "Chihuahua Mania," including Dr. Dre and Johnny Depp.
