PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - With the dreary weather Saturday, it was a good day to stay inside and listen to some music for a good cause.

Local musicians began playing at the Marathon Bluegrass Jam Session at noon at the American Legion Hall Post 310 in Portsmouth to raise money for Fisher House at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

Families of wounded or ill service members and veterans can stay at Fisher House while their loved ones are treated at the hospital.

“We’ll be here till midnight and we’ll be playing [until] our fingers fall off,” Event Organizer Bill Maddrey told WAVY.com Saturday. “I’ve still got all 10 of mine so I’ll be in here playing.”

This is the 10th year for the jam session to help Fisher House.
