PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) - Portsmouth Police have arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a home along Scott Street early Thursday morning.
Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Scott Street at 2:20 a.m. for a report of a man brandishing a firearm. Additional calls from witnesses claimed the suspect was intoxicated and threatened family members.
The suspect went inside a home and was alone when officers arrived on scene. Attempts to make contact with the suspect were unsuccessful.
Around 6:50 a.m., SWAT officers entered the home and took the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Donald Kerner, into custody without incident, Clark said. A handgun was also recovered.
Kerner has been charged with brandishing a firearm and assault and battery.
