Plane doing brake test ends up in ditch

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Emergency crews rushed to a reported plane crash near a rural landing strip Saturday evening to find a WWII-era aircraft stuck in a ditch.
The plane, however, had never been airborne.
E911 dispatchers took a call at 5:18 p.m. of a twin-engine plane blocking the 900 block of Hare Road, according to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk. The caller said the plane went into a ditch and had just missed a telephone pole.
Crews arrived to find a 1943 Beech 18/C-45 with its nose stuck in the ditch. Responders learned the owner was performing brake tests at the landing strip when the brakes failed, causing the plane to veer across the road before coming to rest.
Klink said a nearby resident with a tractor was on-scene helping the owner of the plane, John Mosby Williams of Bonita Springs, Florida, when crews arrived.
Williams suffered no injuries.
