LOCUSTVILLE, Va. (WAVY) - The National Weather Service reports a tornado touched down in Accomack County near Locustville Saturday.
At around 1:34 p.m. Emergency Management reported damage in the Chase Crossing area. The tornado was located six miles south of Onley and nine miles northeast of Exmore and was moving south at 10 mph, according to a severe weather statement from the National Weather Service.
A spokeswoman for the Virginia Sate Police tells WAVY.com that no injuries have been reported. There are also no reports of major structural damage.
The tornado just missed a mobile home park in Locustville. Neighbors there told WAVY.com they felt it move through the area.
"All you see was it coming right through here knocking everything down," said J'Mesia Grant, who lives nearby.
Kids say they started running home when the sky got dark.
"I was coming from the barbershop, me and my cousin," said one teenager. "And as I was running, I cut my wrist real bad. My laptop fell out of my hand and everything."
Neighbors say their homes shook and objects fell off shelves during the storm. Others saw branches and items in their yard get swept up in the rotation.
"We got on the floor and put a blanket over us," said a young girl. "Then our next door neighbor came knocking on the door because a whole bunch of stuff fell down."
The tornado left as quickly as it came, but not before some snapped a few photos.
"It was something to see," said Grant. "It was something to see."
At least 50 people were without power Saturday night. Power crews are working to restore electricity to those homes.
The worst damage consisted of downed lines and trees.
