MELFA, Va. (AP) - A tornado touched down on Virginia's Eastern Shore, damaging a mobile home and injuring one person.

Meteorologist Lyle Alexander with the Wakefield office of the National Weather Service says the tornado occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Accomack County.

Accomack County Battalion Chief Greg Lewis said fire and rescue workers were called to the 19,000 block of Sea Side Road near Melfa. Crews arrived to find the roof of the mobile home peeled back from high winds. Officials condemned the home.

Lewis said a man had minor injuries, and medics took him to a local hospital for evaluation. The Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents.
