NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Detectives are investigating a double homicide that occurred in Norfolk Thursday afternoon.
Rhonda King, 24, and Tierra Young, 27, both of the 1800 block of Greenleaf Drive, were found dead at the corner of Clifton Street and Indian River Road. The shooting was reported around 4:15 p.m., police said.
The two women were roommates and lived less than a mile from where they were shot and killed. People who were home when the gun went off said they heard a couple shots, then heard a woman scream, then heard a few more shots, about six or seven total.
This was not the ending of 2010 anybody in the Berkeley section of Norfolk wanted to see.
"It's tragic," said Pastor Jim Webb. "It's tragic this time of the year. It's tragic anytime."
The tragedy can be seen in the form of yellow tape, detectives, and police lights. The sorrow could be felt in words.
"It's sad there are two girls dead," said one neighbor.
"I'm just still in shock," added another.
Their bodies were found lying at the corner of Indian River Road and Clifton Street.
"It's too close to home," said a neighbor. "This is going to hit home."
Detectives are now looking for answers. We're told witnesses saw a man running from the scene.
Police tell WAVY.com that right now leads are hard to come by.
"There are people in the community who usually see everything that is going on," Webb added. "Maybe they don't want to talk with police, they can always call me."
Police and Webb hope somebody steps forward and helps find who pulled the trigger.
"No matter how small it might seem, it could be a major piece to a puzzle," Webb said.
There are currently no suspects, motives, or arrests yet.
