NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Volunteers dressed in Star Wars costumes Saturday in support of a blood drive at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk.

The event was called “Blood and Bear It,” and volunteers from the 501st Legion with the Tidewater Alliance dressed up in the costumes in an effort to persuade zoo-goers to donate blood.

Well they forced us to. And they look scary,” Jena Harris and Chase Baranak jokingly told WAVY.com. “We got Storm Troopers and we got to give blood. We get to help people. It’s been a good day already.”

Those who donated blood also received free admission to the zoo.
