NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Special needs students at a local high school are getting the opportunity to learn real-world skills by running a cafe.

Booker's Brew at Booker T. Washington High School is being run by students who run the cash register, brew coffee and tea, make deliveries and keep the cafe running smoothly every day.

"Once they leave Booker T., they [will]  have some employment skills that they can transfer into the workplace," teacher Yvonne Wagner Arrington said.

The school held a contest to name the cafe and the art department had students create the decor.

The cafe opened last year.
