NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Roads Transit has installed six solar-powered trash cans which are capable of holding five times more trash than their predecessors.

According to Tom Holden with HRT, the cans have built-in compactors to allow for more trash reception and reduce the need for trash pick-up at the following locations:

  • NET and Thomas Nelson Community College transfer centers in Hampton
  • Centers at Ocean View and Evelyn T. Butts in Norfolk
  • 19th Street and Pacific Avenue in Virginia Beach
  • Newton Road light rail station
