NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Volunteer assistant Lady Monarch's basketball coach Sara Jones passed away Friday following a battle with cancer.

The news comes just days after Jones was featured on the Hampton Roads Show in Chris Reckling’s “Reck on the Road” series as well as The Sportswrap.

Old Dominion University's Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Ben Waring said Jones died in her sleep at 7:57 a.m. She was 40.
