NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Granby High School students are getting a financial lesson firsthand - by opening and running their own credit union, the Comet Branch.
"You have to excel in your math classes and you have to maintain a high standard of grades," student Driss Jammy said.
The union is an opportunity for the students to sharpen their financial skills and learn about managing their own money.
"I have to be responsible, on top of everything, organized, and it teaches me very important skills," student Alexandra Maghaer said.
Granby High School's Career and Technical Education Center teamed up with the Port Alliance Federal Credit Union to make the project possible.
"Many years ago, we started looking into how we can actually better teach the students financial responsibility," Granby High School economics teacher Therese Boogades said.
