NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Investigators have deemed an early morning fire along Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk suspicious.
Capt. Mike Hicks with the Norfolk Fire Department said crews were still on scene in the 700 block of West Ocean View Avenue. Hicks added the fire was in a two-story unit attached to a 16 unit apartment building on the beach.
According to Hicks, the structure was not occupied and there was no power to the unit. Investigators say the fire is suspicious but have not released a possible cause.
One Norfolk firefighter was transported to a local hospital while a Norfolk Naval Base firefighter refused transport. A civilian was treated at the scene, Hicks said.
As a result, West Ocean View Avenue westbound from the 500 block to the on ramp of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is closed.
