Naval Station Norfolk to use ID scan

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Naval Station Norfolk will be testing out a pilot program for identity card scanning starting Monday, Sept. 24.

During the program, set to last through Oct. 31, gate personnel will be scanning IDs for every entrant, but the decision whether or not to allow someone in will not be dependent upon the ID. The process should take an extra two to eight seconds and delays at gates are expected.

According to Teri Davis with Naval Station Norfolk, security personnel will continue using current procedures when scanning cards.
