NORFOLK, Va. - A meeting to discuss the Brambleton Avenue and Colley Avenue Improvement Project was held Wednesday evening, where city planners explained the project to residents.
The plan calls for elevating a portion of Brambleton Avenue, a major artery to nearby Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, to help keep it from flooding.
"One of the problems we've had, when we get some very high tides, we do get flooding that blocks access to the hospital, so we'll take care of that by raising it a couple feet so it'll flood much less frequently," Norfolk Public Works Director John Keifer said.
The improvement project is slated to aid in access to the Fort Norfolk area and will begin early next year.
