Marcus Shan Young, of the 500 block of Ashlawn Drive, was arrested Nov. 6, 2011 in the homicide of Phillip Doxley. Young is charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commssion of a felony.

21-year-old Norfolk man shot to death

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man was sentenced to 23 years in prison, nine of which were suspended pending good behavior, for the shooting death of a 21-year-old Norfolk man in November 2011.

Norfolk police responded to reports of a man suffering gunshot wounds in the 500 block of Ashlawn Drive in the Oakdale Farms neighborhood, just before 2 a.m. Nov. 6.

Police arrived on the scene and found Phillip Doxey suffering from multiple gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marcus S. Young, 21, of the 500 block of Ashlawn Drive, surrendered to police hours following the shooting.

Young pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years with nine suspended. He also pleaded guilty to use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and was sentenced to three years on that cuont.
