NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Fire crews evacuated Crossroads Elementary School and three nearby homes because of a gas leak earlier Tuesday morning.
According to Harry Worley with Norfolk Fire Department, the gas line rupture occurred in the construction area for the new Crossroads Elementary School. This construction site is near the existing Crossroads Elementary School.
The leak occurred just after 7 a.m., and Worley says that the leak was secured around 8:15 a.m.
Old Ocean View Road was closed to traffic near the elementary school at the time of the leak.
Three homes on Leonard Drive were evacuated because of the leak.
Worley says no gas leaked into the existing Crossroads Elementary School.
