Apts in Denby Park to be demolished

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Seven apartment buildings in Norfolk's Denby Park will be demolished in an effort to reduce crime in the area.
Tuesday evening, Norfolk City Council approved using $1.5 million to buy the apartments in the Wards Corner area of Norfolk, tear them down and replace them with a green space neighbors can enjoy.
"I think we have more to do but this is really the renaissance [for the area. It will] spur development and continues to do so," Norfolk City Council member Andy Protogyrou told WAVY.com.
Officials said the city will assist current residents in relocating.
Last April, the city paid more than $2 million to take down 68 dilapidated apartments nearby.
