NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Recent fights on one local school bus have parents concerned. Students tell WAVY.com the fights are happening on Norfolk school bus 270 coming from Blair Middle School.
"I'm very concerned," one parent who asked to have her identity hidden said. "I'm very concerned for my daughter's safety. I'm concerned for all the others on the bus as well."
One of the fights last month was shot on cell phone video by a student. She told her mom fights are common.
"We just kind of thought it was kids rough housing," added the parent after she watched the video. "We didn't anticipate what we saw. We were really shocked."
This mother fears her daughter could get hurt. She says she has reached out to school officials several times, but never has had much luck.
"There's either no call back or a call back denying there was any reports there was a problem on the bus that day," the parent said.
WAVY.com called Norfolk school officials and asked them what happened on bus 270. Officials said they are looking into the fight and another that happened earlier this week. During that brawl, the bus home from Blair Middle had to stop at an elementary school so the students involved could be checked out by a nurse.
"Two children were bleeding from the nose and one from the mouth," the parent added.
School officials couldn't say how often scenes like this play out on bus 270 or if there is plan to stop it from happening. The parents hope they come up with one soon before it's too late.
"It's just not what we want for our children," the parent said.
School officials say the incidents are under investigation. They say the appropriate disciplinary action will occur.
