NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Norfolk daycare provider and two other women are facing charges following a 7-week-old's death.
Dylan Cummings died on May 25, 2010.
He was in the care of Tammy Futrell at the Little Eagles Day Care on East Little Creek Road at the time, according to Commonwealth's Attorney spokewoman Amanda Howie. The day care is operated by Bethel Temple Church of Deliverance . It is considered a religious-exempt facility, which are often exempt from licensure.
Futrell is charged with homicide and child cruelty/neglect/abuse. Angel Hoskie and Dinnetta Feeney each face a felony child cruelty/neglect/abuse charge in connection with the case, according to Howie. All three remain in jail.
A Grand Jury handed down the indictments Wednesday.
On an online tributes page , a quote attributed to Angel Hoskie states, "I am sorry for the loss of this precious baby. He was truly a joy for the short period of time that we were able to watch him."
Dylan's mother Betsy Cummings said she never expected there would be a problem with the daycare.
"They're a church, you know. I trusted because it's a church and I figured they're good whole people."
Cummings told WAVY.com, "[Dylan] was our everything. I could go to work, have a bad day, and come back home and look at him and everything was perfect again."
On the arrests she said, "I am relieved that things are moving forward because it's really hard to grieve when I didn't have answers or closure."
