NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk firefighters battled a fire in a utility room on the fifth floor of an apartment complex Sunday.
Crews were called to the Royal Mace apartments around 11:25 a.m. for reports of a compactor on fire in a fifth floor utility closet.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the fifth floor of the north tower of the apartment complex, according to a fire department spokesman.
Crews worked quickly and were able to bring the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.
One resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured.
