NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One person was transported to a local hospital after falling into the water while securing a barge in the Ocean View area Tuesday.
Capt. Mike Hicks with Norfolk Fire and Rescue told WAVY.com a citizen called to report a barge possibly out of control between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Upon arrival at 3rd Bay and Ocean View Avenue, firefighters found the barge’s crew secured the barge, and in doing so, a crew member fell into the water.
That crew member was transported for treatment.
John Bull with Virginia Marine Resources Commission told WAVY.com the owner is on scene attempting to get his equipment back. If the barge remains in the area for the next two the three weeks, officials can order it be removed as it would fall under state-owned water bottom.
