NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The U.S. secretary of commerce is in Virginia to begin selling President Barack Obama's election-year economic proposals.

Commerce Secretary John Bryson toured a mattress manufacturing plant in Norfolk on Wednesday before addressing dozens of workers there.

Bryson highlighted key points from Obama's State of the Union address that affect manufacturing, such as better enforcing trade agreements with countries like China. He also reiterated Obama's comments that companies that move jobs overseas shouldn't be rewarded, among other things.

Bryson's comments came the same day that Obama was scheduled to visit Iowa and Arizona to promote ideas to boost American manufacturing.

Virginia is also considered a key state in Obama's re-election strategy and Bryson is the second cabinet official to visit Hampton Roads this month.
