NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Fire officials in Norfolk say a fire at the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church was deliberately set on May 9.
Shortly after midnight, Norfolk firefighters were called to a fire at the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church located in the 6900 block of Newport Avenue.
According to Battalion Chief Harry Worley, an alarm at the church's daycare alerted emergency crews to the fire. When crews arrived, they found a fire inside the church. The fire was under control around 1 a.m.
Tuesday, Worley said investigators have determined the fire was an arson. An investigation is ongoing and further details will not be released.
