NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A faulty ceiling fan started a house fire that displaced two people Saturday evening.
Norfolk Fire Chief Garry Windley said crews were called to 561 Burksdale Road at 6:18 p.m. They arrived six minutes later to find fire coming from the home's attic. Firefighters cut a ventilation hole in the home's roof, which helped them contain the fire to the top floor.
Crews had the fire under control at 6: 41 p.m.
Two adults were displaced by the fire, and they will be staying with family, Windley said.
The on-scene commander called for an additional engine to help the other 22 firefighters deal with any problems from high air temperatures. However, firefighters controlled the flames quickly enough that the extra help was unneeded, Windley said.
No one suffered injures in the fire. No word on damage to the home.
