NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - OpSail 2012 is officially docked in Hampton Roads and the crowds are proof positive that it's already a big success.

"It can't get any better than this," said one patron.

"It's pretty relaxing," Amy Johnson added.

Norfolk's largest event of the year has brought in thousands from all over.

"It's very nice to be here," said LT Gustavo Thome. "We feel very good."

On board the Brazilian tall ship the atmosphere is just as festive as the name of the boat. The ship is just one of dozens that made the OpSail voyage.

"Cisne Branco," said Thome. "Translated it would be white swan. It's a big event. It's always nice for us to participate in this big event."

"I came out in 2000 and it was an awesome experience," Johnson said.

That makes Johnson an OpSail veteran. That's why this time around she's sharing the experience with her son.

"Having the access to all of these different ships and boats, you just don't normally get to see everyday it's definitely a good experience," Johnson added.

For most there's not a better event.

"It's social, it's historical and it's educational," said one woman.

And there's no better venue for the event.

"The Norfolk harbor is the most natural harbor in the world," another guest added.
