NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk's Booker T. Washington High School was selected as one of 11 schools nationwide to participate in the National Spelling Bee Tour.

The competition was held at the school Feb. 3. Only 11 winners got the opportunity to move on to the National Spelling Bee in April, including Omar Tariq. Tariq won $1,000 for being the top speller.

The big winner at the grand finale will receive a $15,000 scholarship and the school of the top speller will receive $10,000 for academic program improvements.
