NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk-based submarine and Aegis cruiser that collided off the East Coast Saturday have arrived in ports for evaluations.

USS Montpelier arrived at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, and USS San Jacinto arrived at Naval Station Mayport, Fla. Both vessels docked Sunday to further assess and evaluate the damage that resulted from their collision at sea, according to a Navy news release.

The collision happened between the Los Angles-class nuclear submarine and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser. No personnel aboard either vessel were injured.

Both the Montpelier and San Jacinto were conducting routine training at the time of the accident.

The nuclear power plant of the submarine remained unaffected by the collision, according to the Navy. Both ships continued to operate under their own power.

Navy officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
