NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Members of the United Steelworkers Local 8888 have voted yes for a new contract with Huntington Ingalls Industries.
This contract ensures the 11,000 workers in the union will have a job for the next four years. The new contract includes raises of $16,400 over the term of the contract, cheaper health insurance and better pension benefits.
Huntington Ingalls Industries said the members voted 1,914-104 on the measure.
"We participated in a productive process that yielded win-win results," said NNS Vice President of Human Resources and Administration Bill Bell. "This offer contains solid improvements, is fair, competitive in the industry and worthy of our great shipbuilders. Establishing this contract will help Newport News Shipbuilding meet our ongoing commitments to shipbuilders and the U.S. Navy as we continue to build the world's best ships."
