NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A leader and his five accomplices were arrested for a fraudulent check cashing ring that obtained more than $3,500 at various banks in Newport News.
Cardre A. Gray, of the 800 block of 35th Street was charged with 14 counts of forgery, seven counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and larceny more than $200, according to S. A. Mounger with the Newport News Police Department.
Mounger said the five accomplices are 31-year-old William Andrews, Jr., 30-year-old Jeremiah Boothe, 18-year-old Bayshaun Freeman, 45-year-old Tina Dembry and 25-year-old Terrence Lennon, all of whom were arrested for similar charges.
