NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News police are investigating a shooting after a man suffering gunshot wounds showed up at the Sentara Careplex in Hampton early Saturday morning.
Hampton police responded to the Careplex around 12:30 a.m. after it was reported that a man was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
After a preliminary investigation by Hampton police, it was discovered that the man was shot in Newport News.
According to Newport News police, the victim was later transferred to Riverside Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition.
Investigators say the 33-year-old man was shot in the 5000 block of Potomac Avenue in the city's East End.
Police are interviewing persons at the Sentara Careplex who assisted the victim and members of his family to piece together what led up to the shooting.
