NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The Peninsula Health Department was evacuated for a brief time Thursday while crews checked for hazardous materials.
According to the Newport News Fire Department, crews responded shortly before noon to the building on J.Clyde Morris Boulevard next to Riverside Hospital. Workers had already evacuated the building due to a strange odor inside.
The Hazardous Material Team responded to the scene as well and did not detect any hazardous materials in the air. Approximately an hour later, crews left the scene and workers were allowed back inside.
Officials say no injuries were reported.
