NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A woman being arrested for public intoxication spit on the arresting officer while waiting to see the magistrate, according to Newport News police.
The incident began just after 4:30 p.m. on February 1. Police were called to the intersection of 28th Street and West Avenue for the report of a woman harassing customers.
When police located Lynne Bland in the 200 block of 28th Street, she was reportedly unsteady on her feet, her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slurred.
Police took her into custody for being drunk in public. Shortly after, Bland became unruly and spat on the officer, according to police spokesman Harold Eley.
Bland is facing charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and drunk in public.
