NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man whose body was found at Peterson's Yacht Basin on 16th Street on Sept. 29.
Around 1:05 p.m. Sept. 29, officers responded to Peterson's Yacht Basin for a report of a body that was found next to a marshy area. Police say there were no visible signs of foul play.
Investigators are asking for the public's assistance to identify the man, who is described as being a black male in his 40s or 50s, 5' 8" to 5' 10" with a slender build and a mustache.
Police have provided a picture of the man's body taken upon his discovery in hopes it will help identify him. Warning, the picture is graphic and may be difficult for some to view. To view that picture, click here .
He was found wearing a a yellow Nike shirt and black pants with a gold belt. He was not wearing shoes, according to police.
