NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Christopher Newport University played host for an emergency response exercise Tuesday morning.

From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., emergency crews conducted operational exercises on campus to test local, regional, state and private plans, policies and procedures for any mass-casualty events. The particular emergency exercise taking place Tuesday involved a gas leak or explosion scenario.

Anyone in the area of the campus would have seen an abundance of emergency vehicles entering and leaving and a large emergency personnel presence.

No classes were in session as students were on fall break from Oct. 20 through Oct. 23.
