NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News family was displaced after an accidental fire sparked in their kitchen, causing $10,000 in damage.
According to J. Douglas Carper, Battalion Chief with the Newport News Fire Department, crews responded to a residential structure fire at 555 Woodall Court in the Misty Woods Apartment Complex at approximately 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Carper says there were no working smoking alarms in the home at the time. Four were treated at the scene and released for smoke inhalation.
The Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Red Cross is providing assistance to two adults and two juveniles.
