New leads in Eastern Shore arsons

$5,000 reward for information

OAK HALL, Va. (WAVY) - No arrests have been made, but investigators say they are working new leads in a serial arson case on the Eastern Shore.

There have been 20 arson cases in Accomack County between November 13 through November 24. The fires were set from Melfa to Parksley to Oak Hall and all cases involved abandoned structures, including vacant homes, barns and even chicken coops.

There have been no injuries reported in any of the cases.

“The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police have received a significant number of tips related to these arsons,” said Accomack County Sheriff Todd E. Godwin. “We want to thank the many residents who have reached out to us in the past week with information. As a result of the public’s overwhelming response and assistance, we have developed several strong leads we are currently pursuing at this time.”

Virginia State Police Capt. Tim Reibel told WAVY.com the person responsible for the fires is believed to be a resident of Accomack County.

Investigators are asking citizens to be keep their eyes peeled for unusual activity around abandoned structures.

Anyone with information is asked to call Virginia State Police toll-free at 1-800-582-8350 or (757) 424-6820; or call the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at (757) 787-1131. There is a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in these cases.
