MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Mathews County has issued a mandatory evacuation for residents in low-lying areas.

Emergency Services Coordinator David Burns said officials issued the evacuation notice because rescue crews would not be able to reach residents in those areas once the flooding started.
