VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A group of light rail supporters held a rally in Virginia Beach Saturday.
They gathered at Salty C's on Shore Drive to gain support for bringing the rail service to the city. They donned "I Love Light Rail" shirts and flew signs urging people to vote yes this November.
Organizers said The Tide has been so successful in Norfolk that there was no reason it shouldn't run in Virginia Beach, too.
"The light rail's going to be great for Virginia Beach," David Mitchell said. "I use it. My family uses it all the time. I live back off Arrowhead by the Newtown Road station. I go to Norfolk all the time. It's a great way to get in and out and beat the traffic. I think it will bring a lot of people into the city of Virginia Beach to go to the festivals and all that good stuff."
Virginia Beach residents will decide if the city will move forward on light rail in a ballot vote this November.
