PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - After 15 years of service with WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX 43, Kerri Furey will say goodbye to viewers Friday, October 12, 2012. Kerri’s skill and expertise on-air has made her one of the favorite news personalities in Hampton Roads

Furey made the announcement on air Monday during the WAVY-TV morning show. She told viewers, "It's just time to slow life down a little bit for myself and my family."

Furey currently co-hosts the WAVY morning newscast from 4:30 a.m. until 7 a.m., The Hampton Roads Show which airs weekdays at 11 a.m. and WAVY News 10 Midday.

Kerri is originally from Southborough, Mass., and got her start in broadcasting as an enlisted sailor in the United States Navy. Since July 1997 Kerri has been a fixture on the air at WAVY-TV 10. "It would be impossible to enumerate her many accomplishments and the wonderful memories she has made during her time here," said News Director Jim Gilchriest. “From big breaking news stories such as hurricanes and a Navy jet crash to hard news stories and Kid Talk and everything in between, Kerri has informed the people of Hampton Roads with flair and a smooth-as-silk style.  She will be missed."

"Kerri has been a remarkable contributor in serving Hampton Roads during her 15 years with WAVY TV and FOX 43," said President and General Manager Doug Davis.  "Her skill, professionalism and genuine commitment were clear every step of the way.  We are extremely grateful for her outstanding service and feel fortunate to have worked alongside her year after year.  And we are excited for Kerri and her family as she begins this next chapter."
