SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Department of Transportation crews completed weekend work on the James River Bridge early.

Crews had closed one southbound lane this weekend to work on the bride's grid deck replacement project. The work was scheduled to continue through Monday at 5 a.m. However, they reopened all lanes around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Crews will perform four brief bridge lifts on Monday to confirm the functionality of the counterweights of the bridge's lift mechanism. The lifts will last up to 15 minutes and will occur between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
