VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Lines formed early outside Hampton Roads stores offering the iPhone 5 Friday.
WAVY News 10 was there when the doors opened at 8 a.m. at the Virginia Beach AT&T store on Virginia Beach Boulevard, with shoppers eager to be the first to buy the highly-anticipated new Apple product.
The Apple store in MacArthur Center was also flooded with customers Friday.
The iPhone 5 went on sale in North America, Asia and Europe on Sept. 21, but Apple took millions of pre-orders for the phone when that was made available last week.
It is not available everywhere, though. Some regional wireless carriers, such as nTelos will begin offering the iPhone 5 to customers on Friday, Sept. 28.
Analysts expect 10 million of the new iPhones to ship by the end of the month.
The revamped Apple product is slimmer and lighter, and features a larger screen and better camera. If you have a previous version of the iPhone, be aware it uses a different charger.
Prices for iPhone 5 will start at $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model.
