HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton University has acquired a new program that will allow anonymous tips to be submitted via text.

To send a tip, text a message to "CRIMES" (274637) with the keyword "Hampton."

The service, TipSoft, keeps a person's identity secure by assigning them a unique ID, according to Trevor Carver with Bradley Public Relations.

People are encouraged to send tips about non-emergency situations, such as unsolved cases, vandalism, theft or planned criminal activity.

Opinions that are derogatory, attack other users or are offensive in nature may be removed. WAVY is not responsible for the content posted in this comment section. We reserve the right to remove any offensive or off-topic remark or thread. To mark a comment for review by a moderator, click "Flag as inappropriate."
