HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - For the first time, the public got the opportunity to share their thoughts on Fort Monroe 's future.
Last September, the base was deactivated after nearly 200 years of service.
The lead consultant on the project also attended the public land planning meeting.
"Looking into the future and trying to develop a plan for Fort Monroe that is very specific about what should go where. What kind of uses should occur here, what kinds of uses maybe are not appropriate for Fort Monroe," Frederick Merrill, with Sasaki Associates, Inc., said.
Another planning meeting will be held Friday, March 30 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
If you would like to attend the meeting, you must register ahead of time . You can also submit your opinions online .
