HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton police have identified the pedestrian hit and killed by a cab Monday night.

Police spokeswoman Allison Quinones said the accident happened in the area of Victoria Boulevard and Wakefield Avenue at 6:45 p.m.

Police said Quentin Lorenzo Cowling, 60, of the 1400 block of Victoria Boulevard, was crossing Victoria Boulevard when he was struck by a Yellow Cab Company vehicle traveling eastbound. The cab driver remained at the scene.

Cowling was taken to Riverside Hospital, where he died later that evening.

Police said it was too early to tell, but it appears this was just an accident and not the cab driver's fault.

The fatality is still under investigation.
