HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Fire crews in Hampton were called to a duplex fire at 407 Lee Street Wednesday night.
The fire was located on the right side of the home and a a firewall between the two apartments kept the flames from spreading to the home on the left. But, Anthony Chittum, with Hampton Fire said the flames did cause some outside damage to a home close the burning duplex.
WAVY.com talked with Kevin Hicks, who was on his porch when he noticed smoke coming from the duplex. He said he rushed across the street and started banging on doors, inside one apartment he found three children who didn't know their home was on fire. Everyone got out safely.
According to the American Red Cross, the right-side duplex suffered major damage, displacing one adult and three children. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
